Roy Moore lost to Doug Jones in the Alabama Senate race Tuesday night, but since all of the late night shows tape in the early evening, hosts didn’t know whether he won or lost. But they took the opportunity to get their digs into Roy Moore, regardless of the outcome.
“It’s also a huge day in Alabama: Election Day,” said Stephen Colbert on the Late Show. “And now it is official: Roy Moore either is or isn’t our newest U.S. senator. Because you see, we taped tonight’s show long before the polls closed.”
“One thing we do know is how Roy Moore got to the polls: He arrived on horseback,” Colbert reported. “And I just want to say to Roy Moore: Hello, you and the horse you rode in on.”
At a rally Monday night, Moore’s wife, Kayla Moore, bragged that “One of our attorneys is a Jew.” The late night hosts tore into her, too. “First thing,” Seth Meyers said on Late Night. “Don’t say ‘a Jew.’ Especially the way you said it. You leaned on that J so hard, I’m surprised you didn’t snag your blazer on it.”
