Stephen Colbert is in Los Angeles this week preparing to host the Emmys this Sunday, so he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk to the host about politics and hosting, of course.
“How exciting for America to see two talk show titans side by side?” Kimmel asked. “You rarely see two middle-aged men talking on television anymore,” Colbert cracked.
Stephen brought up Kimmel’s interview with Sean Spicer from Wednesday night. Kimmel admitted, “He’s much smaller than I thought he was going to be.” But Colbert already knew that because he has “met Melissa McCarthy.”
Kimmel said he felt sorry for the former White House Press Secretary, but Colbert wasn’t having it. “Really? Because he wasn’t apologizing. He wants to be forgiven, but he won’t regret anything he did. You’ve got to regret to be forgiven.”
“What if he’s privately regretting it but too scared to publicly regret it because there’s a big orange bully that might hit him over the head?” Kimmel asked.
“Then we privately forgive him,” remarked Colbert.
Kimmel also gave Stephen some advice on hosting the Emmys, and discussed Stephen’s predecessor David Letterman. Watch the clips below for more.
