After many jokes at his expense, Sean Spicer finally resigned Friday as Anthony Scaramucci became Trump’s new communications director. On Monday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert had a bit of fun with the news by making a wealth of jokes at Scaramucci’s expense.
“I think this is not a good sign for the Trump administration when six months in, they’re already running out of storylines so they started adding crazy new characters,” Colbert said. “Scaramucci is like adding Scrappy-Doo or Chachi to Happy Days.”
“The Mooch” as he has become known as, seems like a stereotypical mobster stooge with his smooth-talking Long Island accent.
In a recent interview, The Mooch played right into the stereotype by telling new Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that she should keep the old makeup artist.
“He’s going to fit in with the Trump administration just fine,” Colbert said, imitating the new communications director. “‘And you could smile more. Would that hurt you so much? You’re so pretty when you smile.’”
Scaramucci then tweeted that he meant he wanted the makeup artist for himself, saying “I need all the help I can get. #humor.”
“Alright, take a joke, ladies,” Colbert remarked. “The Mooch is clearly qualified for this job and I’m sure he’ll do great things. Hashtag #sarcasm.”
