Seth Meyers roasts Trump family for ‘constant lies’ amid yet another Russia scandal

Seth Meyers was away for two weeks, so he had a lot to catch up on. The big story he missed last week was, of course, news that Donald Trump Jr. met with numerous Russians in a private meeting during last year’s campaign. On Monday’s Late Night, Seth returned with a 14-minute “Closer Look” segment to blast the Trump family for its excuses about the meeting.

After making fun of Trump’s visit to France in which he jumped behind the wheel of another truck and subjected another world leader to a weird handshake, Meyers got to the Don Jr. meeting, which a White House official called “sum of all fears stuff. It’s what we’ve all been dreading.”

“Maybe you’ve been dreading it, but the rest of us have been waiting for it like the new season of Game of Thrones,” Meyers said.

Donald Trump Jr. “changed his story four times in four days,” Meyers said of the president’s son’s excuses. “That’s like if your wife asked, ‘Where were you last night?’ and you said, ‘I was at work, I mean I was working, at a co-worker’s house, at a friend’s house, at a female friend’s house, in a female friend’s bed — but nothing came of it!’”

In the past few days, more reports have come out showing that more than eight people were in the meeting, including a former Russian spy. “You know what? At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out that Putin himself was at this meeting,” Meyers said. “The only member of the Trump Team who I’m sure didn’t meet with the Russians was Eric.”

Trump said the matter was just “politics” as usual. “No it’s not,” Meyers exclaimed. “Politics is running attack ads and kissing babies and going down on a corndog at the Iowa State Fair. Just because something is political doesn’t mean it’s just politics. If John Wilkes Booth had shot Lincoln and said, ‘Hey, that’s politics,’ they still would have arrested him.”
