John Oliver reacts to Trump’s ‘barrage of bulls*t’ tweets distracting from the travel ban

On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, John Oliver reacted to President Trump’s latest string of outrageous tweets in which he attacked MSNBC co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, and posted a gif of himself edited to look like he’s bodyslamming a man with a CNN logo over his face.

“President Trump: The Bachelor in Paradise of American presidents,” Oliver called him. “He’s pretty open about how grossly shitty he can be, so we can’t be shocked when he suddenly is.”

The first shocking tweet of the week hit back at critics Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, but Oliver claimed Trump was just using this as a distraction from the Senate GOP’s healthcare bill and the Supreme Court’s latest decision on his travel ban.

“This ban is cruel, it’s unnecessary, and it undermines our standing in the world. So you would think the president would at least be justifying its existence. Instead, he keeps derailing the conversation with his barrage of bullshit,” said Oliver.

Sunday morning, Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert went on ABC’s This Week to discuss the ban, “But they never got around to it, because they had to address yet another unhinged tweet,” Oliver said of the CNN bodyslam tweet.

“You know, at this point I have no choice but to admit that Trump was right: There is at least one grandparent who poses a grave and immediate threat to America,” said Oliver, referring to the travel ban’s rule that grandparents aren’t exempt from the ban. “Unfortunately, it’s the grandparent currently in fucking charge of it.”
