Stephen Colbert spent the last week in Russia, where he filmed hours of film for future Late Show episodes, and appeared on a Russian late night show to announce his potential run for president in 2020. On Monday, he was back on the Late Show to discuss his trip and offer fresh jokes for President Trump.
“Man, it is good to be back in the U.S.A.,” Stephen expressed, before explaining that Russian intelligence seemed to follow him everywhere he went while he was there.
“It’s important to keep your eye on a comedian while he’s in Russia, doing jokes. I could be giving state secrets to the Russians. Oh wait, somebody’s already got that covered,” he remarked.
“But while Russia was fascinating, it is sincerely wonderful to be back in America,” he said. However, even back home, the headlines were still about Russia as president Trump finally accepted that the Russians meddled in the election after a Washington Post article revealed the Obama Administration knew about Russian interference as early as August . Of course, Trump has only accepted it now because he can blame Obama for not stopping it.
“Thanks, Obama!” Colbert said in his best Trump voice, before changing his tone to bitter sarcasm. “No seriously, I’m president now. Thanks, Obama.”
