On Friday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert reacted to news that Senate GOP lawmakers are writing the healthcare bill to replace Obamacare behind closed doors. But first, the host had to talk about news that special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating Trump for possible obstruction of justice.
“Trump’s got a plan,” Stephen said of Trump’s desire to get out of the investigation. “I think he’s gonna be the first person to ever settle his presidency out of court.”
On Twitter, Trump fired back at the revelation, wondering, “Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russia are not looked at, but my non-dealings are?” Colbert responded, “I don’t know, maybe cause those people are the non-president?”
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans have used the investigation news to hide behind closed doors and draft a healthcare bill in secret. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell even said he wants to push it to a vote without letting Democrats read it.
“Somehow your health insurance is the one piece of classified information that no one has leaked yet,” Colbert joked.
The bill is so secret, “it’s like the healthcare bill is the next season of Games of Thrones, and yet somehow, more people will die.”
