“Everybody’s talking about America’s favorite new reality TV show: ‘So You Think You Can Testify About Russia,'” Stephen Colbert began on Tuesday’s Late Show. Just days after Former FBI Director James Comey‘s blockbuster hearing, there was a new testimony to talk about.
The committee chair advised his board not to take any “political or partisan shots” during the hearing. “What about whiskey shots?” Colbert asked, before knocking back a shot glass of amber liquid.
Sessions called any allegations that he or his department colluded with Russians an “appalling and detestable lie.” Colbert put on his best southern accent to announce, “I say, pistols at dawn, sir!…Which is actually not a good idea since the committee chairman is named Burr,” he joked, referencing the man who shot Alexander Hamilton.
At one point, Sessions was asked if he new of any contact Michael Flynn had with Russians, to which he denied knowing. “Wait a second, everybody knows there was communication between Russia and Michael Flynn, that’s why he was fired,” Colbert says, adding, “Sessions really seems to know nothing, which explains why he was the first senator to endorse Trump.”
