You thought former FBI Director James Comey could talk about Donald Trump without the president getting a chance to respond? White House staffers kept Trump from his phone Thursday morning during Comey‘s hearing, but “The President” of Comedy Central’s The President Show found his way to a room of reporters to react to Comey’s testimony.
“Hit me with your worst, guys,” Anthony Atamanuik as Trump told them. “I’m lawyered up, and unlike that tall drink of dog piss James Comey, you can ask me absolutely anything.”
The first reporter asked if Mr. Comey‘s testimony was accurate. “No! I don’t know!” Atamanuik’s Trump responded. “Look, I don’t know a lot of things, like whether or not we have troops in Qatar. Do we? I think we do. But we don’t like them, we don’t like them.”
Another journalist asked him if he really told Comey to stop the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. “I didn’t tell him anything. I said I hope he could let it go. And folks, I hope a lot of things. I’m a hopeful guy. I believe—and this is a phrase I just invented—in the audacity of hope.”
Regarding James Comey’s comment saying, “Lordy, I hope there are tapes” of his and Trump’s meeting, the “president” had one thing to say. “Lordy, I hope not!”
