After terrorists mowed down seven and injured many more near London Bridge this weekend, police killed the three men and London Mayor Sadiq Khan told Londoners not to be alarmed, because the situation was under control. Trump then took that remark out of context and tweeted, “At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!’”
On Monday’s Late Night, Seth Meyers took a “Closer Look” at President Trump’s attack on the London Mayor over the out-of-context quote. Mayor Khan responded to the Trump tweet by saying he didn’t have time to comment on it. “It’s true, responding to Trump’s ill-informed tweets can be a full-time job,” Meyers said. “And I know because it’s my full-time job.”
Kellyanne Conway went on Today Monday to scold the media for focusing on Trump’s tweets instead of Trump’s actions as president. “The reason the press covers very little of what Trump does as president is because, as president, he does very little,” Meyers joked.
“I’ll give her this: Kellyanne Conway has always been very clear Twitter is not Trump’s way to communicate with the public. If she had said otherwise, I would know,” Meyers said, before showing a clip of her on his show in January saying exactly that.
“Dammit,” Meyers remarked. “I really have to start watching my own show.”
