The Trump Organization announced Monday that it had secured the naming rights to The Watergate Hotel. Soon to be known as Trump’s Watergate, the lodging in Washington, D.C., part of a group of buildings known as the Watergate Complex, is known for its ties to the major political scandal that resulted in former President Nixon’s resignation from the nation’s highest office.
Eric Trump, son of President Trump and executive vice president of The Trump Organization, seemed to know nothing of the connection to the scandal when reporters asked him about the deal. “Watergate is great. Trump is great. Watergate and Trump is great,” Eric expressed.
Donald Trump Jr., also son of President Trump and also executive vice president of The Trump Organization, clarified for his brother. “What Eric means to say is that we are excited to bring our name to such a beautiful property on the Potomac River. Trump’s Watergate will truly be one the best things that could ever happen to Washington.”
When asked about the deal, President Trump said it would be a conflict of interest for him to comment on the business affairs of The Trump Organization. Just ten minutes later, Trump tweeted, “Watergate is wonderful. I feel a strong connection to Watergate. Everyone should experience it. Really great.” Ten hours later, he tweeted, “I’ve been trying to make Watergate my own for a long time. I’m pleased to announce I’ve finally made my name synonymous with Watergate #MAGA.”
