Alec Baldwin’s Trump reveals the real reason he fired James Comey in SNL cold open

Melissa McCarthy hosted SNL this week and brought back her excellent Sean Spicer impression, but first Alec Baldwin brought back his Trump portrayal in the cold open to talk about firing FBI Director James Comey with Lester Holt.

In a parody of the Holt interview in which Trump revealed he acted on his own in firing Comey, Michael Che sits in for Holt to question Baldwin’s Trump about the controversial firing.

“Thank you for having me here, jazz man,” says Trump. “But before we begin, I just need to know if I have your undying loyalty,” he presses, echoing Trump’s alleged words to Comey.

“I fired him because of Russia. I thought, he’s investigating Russia, I don’t like that, I should fire him,” Trump admits of Comey’s dismissal.

“But that’s obstruction of justice!” Holt fires back. “Sure, OK,” says Trump.

“Wait, so… did I get him? Is this all over?” asks Holt, before being told by producers, “Oh, no I didn’t? Nothing matters? Absolutely nothing matters anymore?”

Watch the clip for the rest of the interview.
