On Tuesday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert reacted to news that Trump is already running campaign ads for the 2020 election. A group affiliated with President Trump started running ads Monday touting his few achievements in his first 100 days in office.
“One of the nice things about having Donald Trump in office is knowing that it’s all behind us,” Colbert said Tuesday, immediately leading to a montage of clips promoting the countdown to 2020.
When the camera cut back to Colbert, he was hiding off screen. After taking a few seconds to compose himself, Stephen popped back into frame to say, “Kill me.”
“Listen. This is very important. I have a message for our president: No new elections until you finish your wars.”
Colbert then showed parts of the ad in which a narrator claims Trump has brought forth “The biggest tax cut plan in history.”
‘You see what they did there?” Colbert asked. “They didn’t say it was the biggest tax cut in history. They said it was the biggest tax cut ‘plan’ in history. Anyone can do that. Watch: I plan to cut everybody’s taxes to zero percent. There, now I, Stephen Colbert, have the ‘biggest tax cut plan’ in history.”
