Seth Meyers took a “Closer Look” on Thursday’s Late Night at President Trump’s recent stand-off with Canada. The Trump administration this week started a trade war with Canada over lumber and dairy.
Meyers pointed out that this is exactly what people joked about last year. “If we elect Trump we’re going to end up fighting with Canada! Ha!” But as we’ve seen many times this year, the joke has become a reality as Trump threatened to impose tariffs on softwood lumber.
“I’m not going to take that as an opportunity to make a bunch of penis jokes,” Meyers said. “I’m just saying that Donald Trump doesn’t want to be slapped with soft Canadian wood, so he’s clamping down on it.”
Trump also threatened to pull out of NAFTA this week, but in the last second, calls from Mexico and Canada convinced him otherwise.
“Something tells me this isn’t the first time Trump has had to pull out because of soft wood,” Meyers joked. Watch the clip for more.
