On Friday’s Real Time, Bill Maher reacted to Trump’s $450 billion proposal to put men on Mars by urging the president to look to earth first. The plan would send men to the planet by 2033, but Maher said we have more pressing needs right here.
“Everyone has to shut up about Mars and how cool it would be to live there,” Maher said. “If we’re going to overhaul a planet, let’s do this one.”
Calling the idea that we can save humanity by colonizing Mars a “stupid fantasy,” Maher said we need to do away with the “dangerous idea that our culture is already too taken with – that we can keep on trashing Earth.”
“You want to explore something cold and hard? How about facts – facts that confirm climate change is killing us but completely do-able policies could reverse it.”
“Stop looking for the Goldilocks planet. This is it,” Maher remarked, before urging the president, “Make Earth great again.”
