Stephen Colbert continued to rail against President Trump on Monday’s Late Show, this time digging into the Gorsuch hearing and more from Trump’s Russia scandal. The most recent claim is that Russia hired internet trolls to write fake news stories about Hillary Clinton.
“When I say fake news, this is real fake news, not fake fake news that is real news that Donald Trump just doesn’t like,” said Colbert.
As it turned out, social networks like Facebook were a crucial part of Trump’s election win as fake news outlets disseminated misinformation about Clinton and Trump supporters spread any “news” they could find that reaffirmed their suspicions about the Democratic nominee.
“Because if enough people say something is popular, I might trust that it’s good,” said Colbert. “It’s like how if one person tells me how Transformers is a good movie, I might not see it. But if everyone on Facebook is raving about it, I’ll go. And by the time I realize I was lied to, Megatron is president.”
