Stephen Colbert mocks the Trump administration’s ‘deep state’ paranoia

On Tuesday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert made fun of the Trump administration for thinking the ‘deep state’ is out to get them. The amateur politicians running the White House believe Obama planted Democrats in Washington to undermine the Trump presidency, but really they just didn’t realize career bureaucrats from both parties have always made up political staffs.

“You know who has a bad case of the Mondays this Tuesday?” Colbert asked in his opening monologue. “The Trump administration. Because apparently paranoia has seized the Trump White House.”

“I’m surprised,” admitted Stephen. “I thought Russia was going to seize it.”

“I think this paranoia is just the frustration every new administration has with Washington, D.C. It happens every time. You went to Washington, you went to work for Trump because you wanted to tear down the government. Now you have to deal with it. Now you are the government,” Colbert said.

“It’s like a dog who spent his whole life chasing a car. Now he has to drive the car,” Stephen remarked. “We’re not happy about it either, by the way. Remember, we’re in the backseat of a car being driven by a dog now.”
