Kate McKinnon imagines Jeff Sessions as ‘Forrest Gump’ in SNL cold open

On this week’s Saturday Night Live, Kate McKinnon opened the show by mocking Jeff Sessions. The newly appointed attorney general has been in the news this week after reports that he spoke with Russian ambassadors during the Trump campaign.

McKinnon imagined the former Alabama senator, and simple-minded Southern man, as Forrest Gump, complete with park bench and box of chocolates.

Sessions, however, had a different take on Gump’s famous line. “I always say life is like a box of chocolates. Sure are a lot of brown ones in there,” McKinnon said, touching on Sessions’ history of voting against civil rights.

Just like in Gump, a number of strangers sits next to Sessions on the bench throughout the sketch. One such stranger happens to be Octavia Spencer, reprising her role from The Help and offering Sessions a special kind of pie. Watch the clip to see him give proper meaning to the phrase, “Shit-eating grin.”
