On Thursday’s Late Night, Seth Meyers took a “Closer Look” at news that President Trump’s newly confirmed attorney general Jeff Sessions spoke with Russian ambassadors during the 2016 campaign.
“This was supposed to have been the week Donald Trump got a fresh start as president. But now he’s facing new questions about his campaign’s alleged contacts with Russia,” Meyers explained.
Last month, Trump forced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn to resign after a report leaked that he had spoken with Russian ambassadors during the Trump campaign. Now it has been revealed that controversial AG pick Jeff Sessions also spoke with Russia last year.
Sen. Al Franken asked Sessions about this very issue during his confirmation hearing and Sessions denied it. “At the time, it seemed believable enough,” Meyers said. “Surely a senator from Alabama named Jefferson Beauregard Sessions would remember meeting some Russians.” Watch the clip for Seth’s take on the news.
