Stephen Colbert and the Late Show went live Tuesday night to react to President Trump’s address to Congress. “Technically this was not a State of the Union, because in this timeline, I believe the Confederacy won,” joked Colbert about Trump’s first speech to a joint Congress.
“Any chance there is a mistake and Moonlight is the president?” Colbert asked, referring to Sunday’s Oscars mixup.
“Of course, it’s a really big night, and some in Congress dressed for the occasion,” Colbert said. “The female members of the House Democratic Caucus wore white in honor of women’s suffrage. While the Republicans were white in honor of who elected them.”
In his speech Trump mentioned that he would be lenient on immigrants who could support themselves. “Just like the Statue of Liberty says, ‘Give us your tired, your poor, but not so poor they can’t afford a two-bedroom apartment,” remarked Stephen. Watch the clip for more.
