On Friday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert fretted over President Donald Trump’s nuclear plan. Trump has said that he wants to ramp up America’s nuclear arsenal after Obama spent years reducing it and won a Nobel Prize for his efforts.
Colbert remarked on the “terrifying prospect” of another nuclear arms race. “It’s like the Cold War all over again, but this time everyone’s on Russia’s side,” Colbert joked.
Trump said that he wants America to be the “top of the pack” in the nuclear arms race. “Not sure if he means top dog or leader of the pack,” said Colbert, “but either way, he is not the sharpest knife on the Christmas tree.”
Colbert films his Friday shows on Thursday, so he didn’t have a chance to ridicule Trump for keeping CNN and other news outlets out of a Friday press briefing, but you can bet he’ll have something to say about it on Monday when Jon Stewart returns to the show as a guest.
