Donald Trump has declared the news media to be the “enemy of the American people,” so on Friday’s Real Time, Bill Maher urged the press to fight to get their reputation back. As Maher pointed out, a recent Fox News poll showed that more Republicans trust Trump more than the press to give them the facts.
Maher lauded the media’s efforts to call Trump a liar and point out Kellyanne Conway’s “alternative facts,” but he urged for more people to stand up against falsehood. “We’re going to need a lot more of this,” Maher said. “Trump has the White House, he’s got Congress, he’s got a crazy-loyal fan base. What do we have? P*ssy hats. But also people under them.”
He slammed the media for giving Trump so much air time during the election, instead of focusing on “policy people” like Clinton and Sanders. “The media lost trust because they became eyeball chasing, click bait whores, who bumped the story about climate change for the one about grizzly bears in the jacuzzi.”
