On Tuesday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert discussed President Trump’s latest comments on HUD Secretary Ben Carson. In order to save face after his racial comments during his first solo press conference, Trump visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture this week.
While there, he honored Sojourner Truth, Booker T. Washington…and Ben Carson. “I love this guy; he’s a great guy, really a great guy,” Trump said in his speech. “He can tell you better than me, but I tell you we really started something with Ben.”
Yes, “Trump really started something by hiring Ben Carson,” Colbert remarked, “the greatest achievement for African Americans, since about four weeks ago when we had a black president.”
Trump also said Carson will find the “true meaning of HUD” as secretary. “Yes, I believe Ben Carson will find the true meaning of HUD,” Colbert said, “just like in the beloved children’s story How the Grinch Stole Housing.”
