Stephen Colbert thanks Oprah for toppling Trump’s pick for Labor Secretary

On Wednesday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert reacted to Andrew Puzder’s withdrawal from consideration as Trump’s labor secretary. At the top of the show, Colbert remarked on the busy news week. “I thought the show was gonna be about one thing, and then the other thing happened, so I’m gonna talk about the third thing I didn’t expect.”

That third thing was news Andrew Puzder had withdrawn from the labor nomination. “The CEO of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. was controversial for many reasons,” Colbert explained. “He had an undocumented housekeeper, made ads that famously objectified women, and called his own fast-food employees ‘the worst of the worst.'”

“But even with all that, Republicans were still on board with Puzder — until a tape surfaced of Puzder’s wife in 1990 appearing on a talk show describing domestic abuse. That took him down. So who brought that tape to light? I mean, who is powerful enough to topple a Cabinet secretary? You guessed it: Oprah! Thank you, Oprah.” (Although, according to Politico, Oprah fought to keep the tape from being leaked.)

Colbert then went on to talk about that first news story: Russia. Watch the clip to see Colbert ask questions like, “Are you f—king kidding me?”
