Melissa McCarthy as psycho Sean Spicer was the best SNL sketch in years

This week’s Saturday Night Live was the first since Donald Trump became president, and while Alec Baldwin’s cold open as Trump was solid, Melissa McCarthy stole the show (and perhaps the entire season) as a wild and crazy version of press secretary Sean Spicer that somehow seemed spot on. Dressed in an oversized suit and bald cap, McCarthy munched on wads of gum, spouted “alternative facts,” attacked reporters with the podium, and created what will surely go down as one of the all time great SNL sketches.

“Before we begin, I need you to know that myself and the press have gotten off to a rocky start,” McCarthy’s Spicer said. “When I say ‘rocky start,’ I mean it in the sense of the movie Rocky because I came out here to punch you.

“Now I’d like to begin today by apologizing on behalf of you to me for how you have treated me these last two weeks, and that apology is not accepted,” he added. “Because I’m not here to be your buddy. I’m here to swallow gum and I’m here to take names.”

The rest you have to see to believe, including the podium attack and a series of visual aids used to explain the “Moose-lamb” ban.

  1. I stopped watching SNL as they and the other networks do nothing but try to sway public opinion against our president. It gets old, especially since he won and they can do nothing about it.This bullshit has moved me to the right.I didn’t vote for Trump but will next time.

    1. He’s taking all my livelihood from me ! I won’t be able to survive if he and Ryan cut into my SS and Medicare. That is money not theirs! I worked many many years for it! I certainly will never support or respect him!

  3. It was funny. It was hysterical. Melissa McCarthy is fantastic.
But can we stop with the hyperbole?
    The best in years?
What about Alec Baldwin and his takedown of Donald Trump?
What about the rest of the cast, which has really come along way and been quite terrific the last couple of years?
