Seth Meyers says Trump used ‘Hamilton’ tweets to distract from real scandals

On Monday’s Late Night, Seth Meyers discussed Donald Trump’s tendency to start Twitter wars just as his other scandals come to light. On Friday, incoming VP Mike Pence attended “Hamilton” on Broadway and the cast addressed him at the end of the show. It was a calm and respectful address, but Trump spent the weekend bashing the cast. “But once he’s done with that, it’s on to you, ISIS!”

The day Pence saw the musical, Trump settled his Trump University law suit for $25 million. “Congratulations, America, we did it!” Meyers said. “Our president will not have to go on trial before heading to the White House. It feels good to win again.”

Meyers believes Trump used the “Hamilton” controversy to distract Americans from news about his Trump University scandal. “Twitter feuds may be fun, but we have to pay attention to what Team Trump is really up to,” Meyers said, “because they want us to be distracted.”
