On Thursday’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert had a hard time holding in his laughter while talking about Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson. The third-party candidate has suffered a number of gaffes in recent weeks, first when he didn’t know what the Syrian city of Aleppo was, and then when he couldn’t name a foreign leader he looked up to. He called this “another Aleppo moment.”
“That is clearly an Aleppo moment,” said Colbert. “Because bombing that bad should be a war crime.”
“No surprise Johnson is polling at nearly 37 percent among military service members,” Colbert added. “Because if the president doesn’t know about Syria, there’s no way he’s sending you there.”
In another interview, Johnson started talking with his tongue between his teeth, and after mimicking that bizarre behavior for a minute, Colbert noted, “Libertarians have long been waiting for a smart, respectable candidate to represent their values. And the wait continues.”
“Obviously Gary Johnson’s ignorance, crazy ideas, and strange tongue exercises make him the most laughable candidate out there,” Colbert said. “Or it should.”
