Seth Meyers revels in ‘lukewarm zingers’ of the Clinton-Trump debate

"After tonight's debates, several Fox News analysts said that Hillary Clinton is the clear winner. Maybe global warming is a hoax, because hell has frozen over."

Seth Meyers took a “Closer Look” at the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Monday night. As it turned out, all the media spin suggesting Trump wasn’t preparing for the debate were true.

“It seems like the Trump campaign was setting expectations so low, all he would have to do is stand still for 90 minutes and he would be the winner,” Meyers said. “But in the days leading up to the debate, they were worried that bar might be too high.”

“Trump was so unprepared that at one point it looked like he maybe forgot Hillary’s name,” Meyers said, cueing up the clip of Trump asking his opponent if it were okay to call her Secretary Clinton. Clinton, on the other hand, was “over-prepared with one of her patented lukewarm zingers,” which included her calling his tax plan “trumped up trickle-down” economics.

Meyers also pointed to the point when Trump said he had a better “temperament” than Clinton and she reacted accordingly. “Look at that,” Meyers said, “That’s how an aunt shimmies when she hears ‘Single Ladies’ at a wedding.”

“In the end,” he said, “the entire night and the current state of American politics can be summarized by these few words.” “Howard Stern,” “Rosie O’Donnell,” and “Miss Piggy.” Watch the clip to see why.
