Seth Meyers looks at the reaction to Hillary Clinton’s health and ‘basket of deplorables’

On Tuesday’s Late Night, Seth Meyers took a “Closer Look” at Hillary Clinton’s health and the reaction to her “basket of deplorables” speech. The Democratic nominee collapsed while leaving a 9/11 ceremony Sunday and revealed she had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days earlier. Fox News was quick to speculate that she would drop out of the race thanks to an insightful Facebook comment by some guy named Zach.

“Oh, if Zach says it, it must be true,” Meyers joked. “If you’re watching Fox News for information about the upcoming election you might as well cut out the middleman and ask Mom what her Facebook friends are saying. ‘You know, Linda says that Hillary has been a ghost for 10 years. I don’t know, it had 54 likes.'”

One Fox News reporter even suggested that Clinton is now using a body double, which is the plot of the 1993 movie “Dave.”

“That’s right,” Meyers said. “They’re comparing this election to the movie ‘Dave,’ which is ridiculous. ‘Dave’ is about a know-nothing businessman, who is accidentally thrust into the presidency, even though he’s completely unprepared — okay, maybe there are more similarities than I thought.”

Moving on to the “basket of deplorables” comment, Seth mocked the Republican response to Hillary’s assurance that half of Trump supporters are xenophobic white supremacists. Trump responded by saying, “While Hillary Clinton lives a sequestered life, behind gates and walls and guards, she mocks and demeans hard-working Americans.”

“That’s right, Hillary is an elitist, who lives a life of luxury, while Donald Trump is a regular, everyday, man of the people. As you can tell from the humble decor in his home in Trump Tower,” Meyers said, showing a tour of Trump’s luxurious home.
