Stephen Colbert brings back ‘The Werd’ to roast Trump’s response to Khizr Khan

Stephen Colbert brought his classic “Word” segment to Monday’s Late Show to mock Donald Trump’s response to Khizr Khan. Now titled “The WERD” due to copyright infringement, Colbert used his usual call-and-response with graphics department to reveal the truth behind his words.

Donald Trump criticized Khan and his wife, Ghazala, parents of a slain soldier, after Khizr made a speech at the Democratic National Convention calling Trump out. He said Trump has never made any sacrifices and has probably never read the constitution. Trump fired back, saying he has sacrificed a lot by building businesses.

“Yes, Trump has sacrificed a lot. First, humility,” Colbert said, while “The WERD” said, “Second: Humanity.”

Trump also criticized Ghazala for not speaking, assuming she was silent due to her Muslim faith. “Yes, Trump knows a good husband allows his wife to say something,” Colbert said, and “The WERD” chimed in, “That Michelle Obama already said.”

Colbert then ran through a few of Trump’s other egregious gaffs. “The next terrible thing always seems to fix the previous terrible thing. It’s like the old woman who swallowed a fly, only Trump would never be seen with an old woman.”
