On Monday’s Late Night, Seth Meyers took a “Closer Look” at Donald Trump’s attacks on the family of fallen soldier Capt. Humayun Khan. Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention last week while his wife Ghazala stood beside him in grief as the picture of their dead son was projected behind them.
“Any decent human being would respect the Khan’s loss and move on,” said Meyers. But Trump attacked the Khan family, and suggested Ghazala remained silent on the stage due to her religion, following his accusation with, “you tell me, but plenty of people have written that.”
“I feel like Trump needs to start giving us names when he says, ‘a lot of people have said that.’ Because I bet 75 percent of them are Twitter eggs,” Meyers joked.
Khan attacked Trump in his speech, saying Trump has probably never read the Constitution. Trump responded by saying Khan “has no right” to say those things about him.
“He does have the right to say that according to the Constitution,” Meyers said. “If you’re going to insist you read the Constitution, maybe don’t swing and miss at the First Amendment. That’s like saying, ‘I know the 10 Commandments — just ask my neighbor’s wife, who I covet.'”
