Samantha Bee calls out double standards and Donald Trump in DNC recap

On Monday’s Full Frontal, Samantha Bee called out Trump and the double standards laid against Hillary Clinton. In her recap of the Democratic National Convention, Bee celebrated Hillary for becoming the first female nominee of a major party.

Of course, as soon as Hillary accepted the nomination, conservative pundits called her speech “shrill.” “We have waited our whole lives to hear a woman to say those words,” Bee said, “and then, immediately get criticized for the voice she said them in.”

Bee also compared the four-day event to the Republican’s fearfest the week before. “The convention was an unexpected triumph of positive messaging and flawless showmanship,” Bee said of the convention, despite the threat of email scandals and Bernie bros. “Turns out the Democrats had this in them all along, and all it took for them to get their shit together was the looming certainty of armageddon.”

“The entire week was an implicit middle finger to Trump’s dystopian view of America,” she said. “But in four days of powerful rebukes to Trumpism, the most devastating came from the father of Captain Humayun Khan, who sacrificed his life while saving his fellow soldiers in Iraq.”

Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention while his wife Ghazala stood beside him in grief as the picture of their dead son was projected behind them. Trump suggested Ghazala was not allowed to speak due to her Muslim faith.

“She was too choked up from seeing her son’s picture,” Bee said in response to Trump. “Why are you allowed to have anything to say?”
