Trevor Noah questioned Ted Cruz’s timing on Tuesday’s Daily Show as the presidential hopeful saved his harshest barbs against Donald Trump until the race was nearly over. Before losing the Indiana primary Tuesday, after which he ended his campaign, Ted Cruz called Trump a “pathological liar” because Trump spread a rumor that Cruz’s father was involved with Lee Harvey Oswald during the Kennedy assassination.
Trevor can’t believe Cruz didn’t say anything earlier. “If this is really what you think of Trump, then where the f—k were you in the past nine months, when saying any of that might have mattered?”
Over the course of his campaign, Cruz repeatedly refused to attack Trump or his “bold, brash voice,” and when he finally did, it was to late. By the time Cruz started to speak out against Trump, the frontrunner’s supporters were poised to fire back, as Indiana Trump supporters did last week, calling Cruz “lyin’ Ted” to his face as Cruz tried to argue about a New York Times editorial.
“It’s like he’s got Trump Tourettes,” Noah says in the clip. “It really shows you how out-of-touch Cruz is: he’s bringing up the New York Times editorial board to a guy who looks like he sells loosie cigarettes at the Gathering of the Juggalos.”
