On Thursday’s Late Night, Seth Meyers took “A Closer Look” at discriminatory “bathroom bills” recently in North Carolina and Mississippi that require trans people to use the bathroom corresponding to the gender on their birth certificate.
“The most absurd impact of these kinds of bathroom bills is you’re actually forcing transgender women, who are women, and transgender men, who are men, to use the wrong bathroom,” Meyers says in the clip. “A policy hasn’t created this much bathroom confusion since hipster bars started using animals as bathroom door signs.”
Seth goes on to affirm, “There’s no evidence for the claim that non-discrimination policies like Target’s endanger public safety.” Donald Trump initially agreed, saying people should use whatever bathroom they want to use, but before he could backtrack, Ted Cruz pounced on the issue and turned it into a last-ditch effort to drum up support for his dying campaign.
“Even if Donald Trump dresses as Hillary Clinton,” Cruz said at a rally, “he shouldn’t be using the girls’ restroom.” Meyers reacts, “But if a lizard dresses up in a suit, he can run for president.”
