On Monday’s Full Frontal, Samantha Bee ridiculed Fox News and its associates for defending “genocidal” Andrew Jackson over Harriet Tubman after the Treasury announced it would replace Jackson with Tubman on the front of the $20 bill.
“When we make such a dramatic change to something no one ever looks at,” Bee says, “we have to consider the fragile feelings of white men who tragically appear on only seven out of seven bills currently in production.”
Bee shows a clip of Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade asking, “How could you be remaking American history at this rate? It’s incredible.” Than later, “Others feel ousting a past president who’s done so much in the founding of our country is an unbelievable sign of disrespect. I mean, you look at a guy that is a key member of America.” But Bee points out: “He was not a founding father. He was a genocidal prick who forced the relocation of nonwhites and fomented populist rebellion. Kind of like a Trump with better hair.”
Bee hits hardest, though, in response to a random guy’s proposal that they make a new denomination for Tubman, like a $12 bill, which would be 3/5 of $20.
