Seth Meyers took his usual “Closer Look” at the last Republican debate ahead of the New Hampshire primary on Monday’s Late Night. Seth begins by acknowledging that this is the eight GOP debate, and should thus be a well-oiled machine by now. “Instead, the night began with the precision of a kindergarten holiday pageant” as Ben Carson missed his cue to enter, then Ted Cruz passed him, then Trump missed his cue, then Rubio passed them. It was one big hilarious mess and caused Seth to ask a very important question. “Is Ben Carson really a brain surgeon, or did people start calling him that sarcastically and it just stuck?”

The candidates eventually made it onto the stage and immediately Chris Christie went on the offensive, calling out Rubio for his rote repetition of a “25-second speech” against Obama. And in trying to defend himself, Rubio just repeated the speech again, as if he could still prove his point. Just to be clear, Seth points out, “That’s Marco Rubio on a loop, brought to you by Vine,” adding, “I hope he picks a Donald Trump GIF as his running mate.” That wasn’t even the biggest feud of the night. Donald Trump not only fought against Jeb Bush, he then “went full wrestling heel and turned on the audience” after they booed him. Watch the clip to see Trump in all his Hulk Hogan-esque glory.
