Almost the entire cast of Saturday Night Live filled the stage to mock the most recent Republican presidential debate. SNL had not parodied the Republican debates, perhaps because the cast doesn’t feature enough white men to portray the full Republican field. But they got ahold of Darrell Hammond this week, and asked him to return to Studio 8H to portray Donald Trump. He opened with, “Debates are stupid. You should be paying me, and Wolf Blitzer looks like Papa Smurf,” and with that the cold open became a mix of truth and parody, much like the actual debates. Taran Killam’s Ted Cruz assured his constituents, “I promise ISIS will hate me, and do you know how I know? Because everyone who knows me hates me.” Beck Bennett’s Jeb Bush tried his best to fight Trump, but Trump hit back with, “I got ahold of Jeb’s birth certificate and, full disclosure, his real name is Jebra.” Watch the video to see statements from Carly Fiorina, Chris Christie, and more.
