On Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update, Colin Jost and Michael Che discussed Donald Trump’s racism and Kate McKinnon dropped in as Angela Merkel. Donald Trump’s week was filled with controversy over a statement he released announcing that he would ban all Muslims from entering America. Michael says, “This is gonna sound crazy, but I don’t believe Donald trump is a racist. I think he’s just pandering to the most prejudiced segment of the country. He’s hustling them. His best friends are Mike Tyson, Don King, and Omarosa. I know black people that wouldn’t hang out with those black people!” He goes on to say that racism is deeply embedded into a person’s soul, but “I’ve looked into that man’s eyes. Donald trump doesn’t have a soul! There’s nothing in there but dollar signs floating in cologne.” Colin only partially agrees. He compares Trump to a salesman, but says even someone who sells Papa John’s doesn’t do it by rounding up all the Taco Bell’s and sending them to Mexico.
After a few other digs at presidential candidates Ben Carson and Jeb Bush, the anchors are joined by Angela Merkel. Kate McKinnon returns as the German Chancellor to discuss her recent election as Time’s Person of the Year. As excited as she is about the prize, the cover Time chose looks “like a pile of oatmeal with two blueberries for eyes.” Watch the video to see her talk about the upcoming Krampus season. In the second part, below, Leslie Jones stops by to comment on the Golden Globe nominations.
