Seth Meyers used his recurring “A Closer Look” segment to examine Donald Trump’s recent call to ban all Muslims from entering America. The day before Trump’s comments, Marco Rubio went on Fox News to ask, “Where is there wide spread evidence that we have a problem in America with discrimination against Muslims?” Seth points out that “most people saw that and said, ‘That’s ridiculous,’ but Donald trump apparently saw that and said ‘Challenge accepted!'” Seth points out that the reason for Trump’s comments seem to be poll numbers in Iowa that put Ted Cruz in front, and when Trump says crazy things, he gets crazy support. And he will never back down. When confronted about the similarities to Nazi Germany’s treatment of the Jews, Trump proposed that he would be more like FDR, putting the Japanese in internment camps, which the US government apologized for because of its racial prejudice. As a result of this extremism, Trump has been given wall to wall coverage on every news outlet. “Meanwhile, the last time other candidates like Rand Paul appeared on TV was as an extra on Bones.” If this is how Trump acts at the top of the polls, there’s no telling what he will do when he starts slipping.
Watch The Daily Show compare Trump to ISIS.
