On Monday’s The Daily Show, Trevor Noah discussed the discrepancy between Ben Carson’s stories and the alleged truth as exposed by the media. Carson has been trying to up his street cred as of late by “telling people how hard he used to be,” with stories of trying to hit his mother with a hammer, and attempting to stab a friend. Noah assumes this is why he became a neurosurgeon: “I’m enjoying this, I should find a job where I get to cut people open all the time.” The problem is that his stories have not been corroborated by those who knew Carson as a young man, and Carson finds himself in “the opposite of a witch trial,” in which he is actually trying to assure America that he did try to stab someone.

Carson made the mistake, though, of comparing himself to Barack Obama, who he said was not held up to this level of scrutiny. Of course, The Daily Show has the clips to prove him wrong, showing Obama being questioned about everything from his identity, his marijuana use, the fact that he’s a smoker, his connection to Reverend Wright and Louis Farrakhan, whether he’s a Muslim, and his natural born citizenship. “So they vetted Obama to the point where they questioned whether he was a legitimate natural born citizen,” Noah says, “but at least no one ever accused Obama of not stabbing a guy.”
